Hametz Sale

Traditionally we sell our hametz before the holiday, as it is not supposed to be in our possession during Passover. Every year at this time I act as an agent for you if you would like to sell your hametz.  I then turn it over to a minister colleague, thus giving her “ownership” of your hametz until the end of Passover. 

It is customary to give Tzedakah before Passover so that those who cannot afford the cost of the holiday are provided for, and selling your hametz is a great time to fulfill this mitzvah as well—a twofer, as it were.
