Rappaport has been involved in family genealogical research for some 50 years. He comes from a family where Jonathan’s father was first generation American-born from Jewish parents who originated from four different shtetls in what is now modern-day Lithuania. His mother was a convert to Judaism and descendent of 300+ years of people living in North America dating back to the 1600s. This includes French Canadian, English, Scottish, and Irish ancestry. The issues of researching each of these various family branches can be quite different and interesting. Jonathan was recently on the board of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston, where he ran JGSGB’s award-winning “Research Sunday” program three times yearly.
